Aluminium

90% of our work is in aluminium and its alloys. Aluminium is a relativly easy material to machine.

Free machining aluminium, including 1000, 1100, 1200 as well as 2011 to 2024 are 'soft & gummy' resulting in problems associated with a built-up edge as well as a torn or dull surface finish. Working resolutions to this include increasing speed, reducing feed and using positive feed rakes, as well as the use of coolants designed for aluminium.

High silicon luminium, 4000 to 7000 is 'abrasive & tough' resulting in edge wear and a built up edge/surface. The remedy here is for increased speed, superoir tooling (diamond) and increased coolant concentration.

We pride ourselves on our ability to handle your material with care.
